Running with Scissors - June 2005

Running with Scissors by Augustine Burrows
Chosen by: Jessica T.
Location: Jessica's house in Rogers

The Thons have just finished their new basement, so we hung out, ate and played with Cody down there. It is a great room, complete w/ bar, pool table and giant TV. Angie, Kerry, Ryan, Christina, Carolyn, Shelley and Jessica T. were there tonight. Cody is quite the charming 2 1/2 year old. He's into hide and seek and spying right now. He had some homemade binoculars that he was using to sneak up on people. Too cute.

This book is autobiographical, and man, did this guy have a dysfunctional childhood. Some of the scenes were so unbelievable it's hard to imagine that they really happened (ie. the poop prophecies). We decided that by the end, we were all a bit tired of bible dips, crazy psychiatrists, and inappropriate relationships. It was a trip to read it though. It made me feel quite ordinary, but that is a good thing considering this man's life. The movie version of the book is coming out soon - maybe that will be a book club field trip?
