We met for tapas, which we love, because everyone gets a little of everything. Wine and good conversation. Another new member joined this evening, Jennifer Wolf, who is an attorney at Matt's firm, Rider Bennett. It's always fun to have new members and new views. Yeah! Ryan, Carolyn, Kerry, Michelle and myself were also there.
This novel is Toni Morrison's first, written in 1970. Set in Ohio post depression era, the story follows the life of an 11 year old black girl named Pecola Breedlove. She and her family have several issues, seriously tragic issues. She is ridiculed, spat upon, made to feel very ugly and pins much value on whiteness. She feels the way she will really be loved is to have the bluest eyes. It was one of those books that was good, but emotionally difficult to read. It's always hard to imagine how monsterous humans can be.
