All ten of us attended tonight! Ryan is due next month, so we decided to give her a little shower along w/ our meeting tonight. Updates: Jennifer is now married and Jessica P is moving in with her boyfriend Joep on Wednesday! Kerry is 16 weeks pregnant and is not quite showing yet. Cody is almost 2! Norah is 10 months old and is crawling everywhere. Christina's surgery went well. Michelle is loving the farm and Zach is 2 1/2. Angie has a family, the Toths, living with her while they search for a house. Interesting times for her as Mike is Matt's best friend. Kai is 14 months old.
We discussed the book first. It was extremely emotional and difficult to turn the pages at times, bringing me to tears on more than one occasion, but I really liked it, as did most of us. The main character, Amir is the epitomy of selfish and his counterpart and childhood best friend, Hassan, was the epitomy of selfless. It is set in Afghanistan and spans about 40 years of personal and political turmoil. The author really paints a bleak picture of the country and how devastated it is, and has been for so long. We are just so fortunate to have what we do in our safe, quiet little book club.
For Ryan's shower, we had Irish stew (my first attempt and it wasn't the greatest), soda bread and lots of appetizers. Woullet's lemon souffle cake and ice cream for dessert! (Ryan doesn't like chocolate, but I'm down with the lemon souffle any day of the week!) It was a fun night, it's nice when we all can make it.
