These collections of short stories are put out every year, selected by a guest editor. This year's editor, Sue Miller, chose 20 stories out of the 100 that were given to her. Eight of these stories came from the New Yorker and the others out of various other publications.
Most of us read at least some of the stories. There was some good discussion but not all of us read the same ones, so conversation was a bit limited. It's always fun though just getting everyone's take.
Jessica T. wasn't here tonight and a lot of our discussion centered around Cody Thon. Paul and Jessica received some terrible and worrisome news a few days ago. Cody was diagnosed with biliary atresia and is having surgery soon. He may need a liver transplant. We just can't begin to know what Paul and Jess and Cody are going through - we are hoping and praying for the best possible outcome for our little friend. Jessica is a very strong and brave woman and Cody is a lucky little boy to have her as his mommy. We will of course do our best to be there for them and support them in any way we can.
Girlfriends are priceless.
